Pirates coach provides update on Makhaula

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has provided an update on midfielder Makhehlene Makhaula after he collapsed during the Nedbank Cup match against Hungry Lions on Saturday.

Makhaula was rushed tohospital before half-time after falling down and later collapsing on the field during the Ke Yona Cup match against Lions at the Orlando Stadium last weekend.

The former AmaZulu FC man spent a night at the hospital before being discharged the following day.

he is set to undergo further medical assessment today, prior to being allowed to go back to training.

Riveiro is confident that Makhaula will be back on the field of play and resume training with the rest of the team before the end of this week.

“He is alright. It was a scare. It was scary. It was a difficult moment, but in the end, it was not as bad as it looked like,” the coach toldjournalists during the Nedbank Cup draw in Johannesburg on Monday.

“Right now, he is much better. He is going for another assessment with the doctors again tomorrow (Tuesday) and hopefully, he can start working normally with the team this week,” he added.

Orlando Pirates have been drawn against Usuthu in the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals after beating Motsepe Foundation outfit Hungry Lions 4-0 in the previous round.
