Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena says Peter Shalulile showed a bit more of his 'usual self' in the win over Maritzburg United.

Sundowns booked their spot in the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup thanks to a late brace by Thembinkosi Lorch.

The 37-year-old coach singled out players he was happy for, who were out for a long time.

"We started a little bit passive, good on the ball, looks good but no incision, no penetration and when we got a little bit of a break because of the weather conditions, we had a bit of a talk, it looked a little bit better," Mokwena went on.

"And at half-time we had to step it up a little bit more but we could step it up a little bit because the last 15 minutes of the first-half was much better and then it was better in the second-half.

"So very happy with that and happy for the players. I'm happy Rivaldo (Coetzee) is back, Sailor (Khuliso Mudau) is back, Mothobi (Mvala) was on the bench, we could have given him a few but the game required something else," he said.

"I'm happy for the young boy Kutlwano (Letlhaku), we were brave at nil-nil to throw him in, I'm happy Peter (Shalulile) showed a little bit more of his usual self, a little bit more self confident.

"Sipho is coming, I have to be patient with the special players like (Matias) Esquivel, like Sipho (Mbule), you have to be patient with them because the talented players you just can't…So congratulations to the team, everybody congratulations," he added.
