Former Orlando Pirates coach Fadlu Davids, currently assistant coach at Raja Casablanca, has discussed the difficulty of competing with Nassreddine Nabi's FAR Rabat for the title and how breaking Pitso Mosimane's record may not be enough.

Davids, along with Raja head coach Josef Zinnbauer, also formerly with Pirates, were appointed to take over the Green Eagles project in June last year after their short spell at Russian giants Lokomotiv Moscow.

After Raja finished fifth last season, the former Buccaneers' coaching duo have transformed Raja in their first season, where they are competing for the title with FAR Rabat, with only four games left to play.

Davids, in an exclusive interview with KickOff, admitted that the standard is now raised high in the Botola Pro League.

To give perspective, the former Maritzburg United tactician, made comparisons with the PSL, where South African coach Pitso Mosimane still holds the record of the most number of points in the PSL era during his time at Mamelodi Sundowns, in the 2015/16 season, set at 71 points.

"If you see the English Premiership you can see that whoever drops points is out of the race. It's similar to us. We both know that if anyone drops points, the other one can go ahead and that's exactly what it is," Davids told KickOff.

"We're four points (behind FAR) and 12 points to play for. This league season will probably be a historic contest just in relation to the last ten years. If we win all our games, we get to 72 points.

"I know we were talking about Pitso's record of 71 (points). We could get to 72 points, unbeaten and still not win the league. So all we can do now is to focus on three points and see what happens," he  said.

"Pitso at Sundowns got to 71 points, the leagues are similar in terms of teams, 30 matches, exactly as PSL. When you talk about what's the maximum you need to win the league. When we did our analysis before joining, 67 points in the last years has probably been the most and we said this season we'll probably need 65 but of course now it looks like we could get to 72 points if we win our last four matches and that might also not be enough," Davids added.
