Mamelodi Sundowns legend Sello “Page,” Mahlangu says the club’s head coach Rhulani Mokwena should not be blamed for the CAF Champions League exit.
Despite having one of the strongest squads in Africa this campaign, Mokwena still failed to take the 2022/23 DStv Premiership champions to the final of the Champions League.

“In football, if mother luck is not on your side, then it’s not on your side,” Mahlangu tells KickOff.
“The team played well, and it showed great character. We were unfortunate to consider our own goal.
“But we know it usually happens, our game plan was spot on but not in terms of defence, hence we’ve allowed them to bounce back to score [Wydad].
“The coach is growing; the coach is in-experienced as he said so himself.
“He is regretting, but we learn from our mistakes, he will grow from this. He will learn and the team will do wonders in the next season.
“Yes in terms of the goals they have set for themselves this season, not winning the Champions League did set them back a little.
“According to their standard they did not achieve Sundowns this season, but according to us [fans] they have achieved because winning the local league is still an achievement.
“You are a very good coach if you are coming with your game plan from day one until you win the league.
“Winning the league with six matches to spare is a huge achievement.
“They might have lost the other trophies but what matters the most is winning the league."
