Head coach Cavin Johnson has defended the intensity and fitness of his players as 10-man Kaizer Chiefs failed to settle for yet another goalless draw on Saturday.

Chiefs’ extended their unwanted record of having not scored a single goal or won a match in the 2024 calendar year as they played to a 0-0 draw at FNB Stadium on Saturday evening.

While Amakhosi have done impressively at the back to keep five or six consecutive clean sheets, questions have been asked of the team’s attacking intensity going forward.

Speaking at the post-match press conference after the match, Johnson defended his side.

"I think we have to look at this game differently," Johnson said.

"I mean you look at all the games differently and we a make a remark that we're not moving the ball forward properly.

"I don't think we're moving the ball forward badly, I just think we’re just not passing the ball right, so therefore we don't see the intensity of the game.

"I think what you see is what I see as a plus, but at the same time I look and I see myself questioning the technique we use  sometimes and that for me is a problem going forward.

Sections of supporters had also questioned the side’s condition, with several playing looking slightly worse for wear.

"No, I don't think Mshini (Nkosingiphile Ngcobo) is overweight, I think he's fine," Johnson added.

"I think he’s fine, he might look overweight but I can tell you we have people who are looking at all these and none of the players are really overweight.

"I can tell you that we have one of the best fitness centres in the country. we have one of the best fitness measurements in the country and when we do all those things everything comes out perfect.

"So, if you look fat, that's what I think, but he’s not fat, he’s normal, you understand what I'm saying? So, who are we as outside people to decide whether a person is fat or whether a person is thin? Do I look fat guys?”

Next up for Chiefs is a DStv Premiership clash against Lamontville Golden Arrows at FNB Stadium on Tuesday night. Kick-off is at 19:30.
