Kaizer Chiefs picked up their first win of the year after defeating Golden Arrows 1-0 in the DStv Premiership on Tuesday evening.

Sifiso Hlanti and Njabulo Ngcobo were welcomed back by the Amakhosi, who dropped Ashley Du Preez to give Wandile Duba his first start while Luke Fleurs was named on the bench.

Duba announced himself in style when he got outside the area past ten minutes to collect a low pass and curled into the top corner for his first senior goal.

Former Arrows man Pule Mmodi threatened to get a second goal with a telling shot from just inside the box, but he was denied by Arrows goalkeeper Sifiso Mlungwana.

Abafana Besthende did come inches close to the leveller late in the half as Knox Mutizwa collected an angled pass to get goal-sight but failed to pounce.

Mutizwa again came extremely close just after halftime when he beat the offside trap to go in behind following a lofted ball but blazed over with the goal at his mercy.

The host showed a pair of alterations minutes into the resumption, as Saile made way for Jasond Gonzalez before Du Preez came on ahead of the goal-scorer Duba.

Substitute Olwethu Ncube went very close for the visitors just minutes after coming when he charged in from the left to draw a smart save from Bruce Bvuma.

Bvuma assisted by his fellow man at the back continued to hold firm, with Abafana Besthende eager to salvage something but it wasn’t to be as the Amakhosi grabbed their first win of the year.
