Magesi FC cement top spot in promotion race

Black Leopards 0-1 Magesi

Magesi retained top spot in the Motsepe Foundation Championship after a late 1-0 win over Black Leopards in the Limpopo derby on Saturday afternoon at Thohoyandou Stadium.

After a goalless first stanza, Rhulani Manzini eventually snatched what proved to be the winner for Dikwena five minutes before time.

Magesi held on to their top spot by one point while Leopards dropped down to eighth.

Baroka 0-1 Venda Football Academy

Promotion hopefuls Baroka lost back-to-back matches after a narrow 1-0 defeat against Venda Football Academy in the Limpopo derby on Sunday afternoon at Global Stadium.

Following a goalless first stanza, Rudzani Thobo eventually broke the deadlock for Venda on 66 minutes and that handed them maximum points.

Dan Malesela's charges dropped down to fifth on the log, eight points behind leaders Magesi while Venda slipped down to 13th.

Casric Stars 2-2 NB La Masia

Casric Stars missed the chance to close the gap on the promotion chasing pack after they squandered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with NB La Masia on Saturday afternoon at Giyani Stadium.

Decide Chauke got the opener for Stars on 14 minutes and doubled their lead with 21 minutes remaining, as he completed his brace.

However, Tshepo Kakora reduced the deficit for the visitors a minute later and Brandon Morris levelled matters seven minutes before time.

Casric had to settle for seventh position on the log, eight  points off promotion places while Daine Klate's charges dropped down to 12th.

Platinum City Rovers 0-4 Pretoria Callies

Pretoria Callies won back-to-back matches after hammering Platinum City Rovers 4-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Tshiamo Mahome opened the scoring for Callies on 19 minutes, Ronald Mabaso doubled their lead nine minutes before the break and former Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs striker Siphelele Mthembu put the game to bed early in the second stanza.

Santino Smith rounded off the thrashing on the hour-mark.

The Romans went up to 11th on the log while City Rovers were stuck at the bottom of the log.

Upington City 1-1 Marumo Gallants

Marumo Gallants extended their winless run to three matches after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Upington City on Saturday afternoon at Mxolisi Dicky Stadium.

Monde Mphambaniso broke the deadlock for Gallants just before the break but former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Keletso Makgalwa salvaged a point for Upington with the equaliser on 67 minutes.

Bafana Ba Gucci are lying fourth on the log while Bahlabane Ba Ntwa dropped down to second-from-bottom.

JDR Stars 1-0 Milford

JDR Stars ended a four-game winless run after they edged Milford 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Giant Stadium.

Stars went ahead as early as the fifth minute from the penalty spot and that was enough to bag them the three points.

The Tshwane side moved up to ninth on the log while Milford slipped down to 14th.

Orbit College 0-0 Maritzburg United

Orbit College missed the chance to go equal on points with leaders Magesi after a goalless draw against Maritzburg United on Saturday afternoon at Olympia Park Stadium.

Orbit dropped down to third on the log following the stalemate, two points behind Dikwena while Maitzburg had to settle for tenth spot.

University of Pretoria 2-1 Hungry Lions

Promotion-chasing University of Pretoria returned to winning ways after edging Hungry Lions 2-1 despite going a man down on Friday afternoon at ABSA Tuks Stadium.

An own goal by Tshepang Makara on the stroke of half-time gave Lions the lead and AmaTuks were reduced to ten men early in the second stanza after Malekgene Mampuru was red carded.

However, Mamelodi Sundowns loanee Thabang Sibanyoni levelled matters for the Tshwane side on the hour-mark and found the winner four minutes before time as he also completed his brace.

AmaTuks had to settle for second spot on the table, just a point behind leaders Magesi while Hungry Lions found themselves in sixth spot.
