Struggling Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit Platinum City Rovers have completed the signing of a highly-rated midfielder who was on the books of Orlando Pirates not too long ago.

Nkanyiso Zungu, most recently with Richards Bay FC, has penned a short-term contract with Rovers until the end of the current season.

The lanky player has joined Bakone as a free agent after being released by the Pirates at the end of last season following his return from the loan stint with the Natal Rich Boyz.

The 28-year-old had trained with KwaZulu-Natal sides, in Royal AM and AmaZulu FC, before finding a new home with the Tlou Segolela-led team.

According to an official at Platinum City Rovers, Zungu is now available for selection after registering with the PSL last week.

“He is now registered and ready to play. He has been working very hard at training and deserves the opportunity. He is also bringing a lot of experience to the team and will help to guide the youngsters,” said the official.

Zungu has also played for Usuthu, Stellenbosch FC and Jomo Cosmos, amongst other teams in the PSL, and has a statement to make after his failed stint with Pirates. For all his obvious talent, his career has been dogged by reports of off-field ill-discipline.

Platinum City Rovers are currently sitting in position 15 on the Motsepe Foundation Championship log after managing to snatch a point against Upington City away from home on Tuesday.
