Head coach Gavin Hunt is refusing to throw in the towel on the prosect of continental football, as SuperSport United missed another chance to climb up the DStv Premiership table.

Matsatsantsa were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by DStv Premiership newbies Polokwane City at New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday night.

The home side had been reduced to 10 men when goalkeeper Ricardo Goss received his marching orders and had to battle their way back from a 1-0 deficit after Oswin Appollis put City ahead in the 56th minute.

SuperSport’s equalizer came from Etiosa Ighodaro in the 68th minute.

The draw places Matsatsantsa fifth on the log, outside of the spots for continental football, but the Tshwane giants will have more chances to climb back into the top four, with seven matches to play.

Speaking to the media after the match, Hunt insisted though that he believed the results would start coming for his side.

"I think we are doing brilliantly," he said.

"We had a bad game on Saturday (4-0 loss to Stellenbosch), but before that I think we’ve done very, very well with this squad of players.

"Young players have had to come in, they’ve had to learn on the job. So, I think we’ve done really really well.

"We had a bad cup (run). Yes, I accept that. But we played against a very, very experienced side on Saturday and a team that’s been together. We will get better, there’s no doubt about that.

"We’ll finish well. We’ve still got seven games left. We’ll still finish well. We’ve still got a lot of games left. We’ll finish well, guaranteed.

"We are progressing and learning every game. It’s a tough league. [We played against] a physical side. Big strong team. Lots of players in this team that played today are experienced."

Next up for Hunt’s troops is a league clash against Chippa United, to be played at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday.
