Nyasha Mushekwi has wasted little time in showing his new employers that they didn’t err in handing him a contract that could possibly keep him in China until he is 40.

Mushekwi was lured back to Chinese second tier league club Yunnan Yukun on a two-year deal contract with favourable terms to what he had at Super League Zhejiang Professional where he scored 20 goals last season.

The veteran striker – who turns 37 in August – was second top scorer in the Chinese Super League last season with 18 goals and added another two in the AFC Champions League.

Instead of extending his contract, Mushekwi opted to return to League One where he played before with Daling Yifang and Zhejiang and won promotion to the Super League with both clubs.

He has been dubbed as the go to man for promotion needs in China as proven by his goals.

His deal at Yukun sets him up for another big pay day should Yukun win promotion and already comes with comfortable earnings.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns striker is said to be amongst the better earners in the Chinese League One and will be approaching 39 when his contract expires.

Just four games into his stay at Yukun, Mushekwi has delivered goals in three games in a row and is already the league’s leading scorer.

Yukun have won every game in which Mushekwi has scored with the latest coming on Saturday.

There are 26 league games left for the Chinese League One campaign that runs on a calendar year.

The lad from Harare has been on double figures for 10 out of 13 of the years that he has played professional football in South Africa, Sweden, and China.

At Sundowns, Mushekwi scored 40 goals in 53 starts and his numbers at Zhejiang have been 20, 18, 23, and 10 through the four years that he has been at the club.
