S'phiwe Mkhonza's career in the PSL lasted 13 years with the highlight being his time at Kaizer Chiefs.

The late Siphiwe Mkhonza only scored three goals during his professional playing career but two of those goals were against teams that would be his next employers.

Mkhonza scored his first goal in professional football against Ria Stars while at Bloemfontein Celtic.

His next employers became Stars.

The next goal that Mkhonza scored was against Kaizer Chiefs during his time at Golden Arrows.

Chiefs then become his next club.

1999/00 – Bloemfontein Celtic – 31 appearances

Played with Willem Vries, Lehlohonolo Seema, Fabian McCarthy, Daniel Matsau, Frans Maboke, Lebohang Kukame, and Thiyekile Gulwa were the regulars in the team coached by the late April ‘Styles’ Phumo.

2000/01 – Bloemfontein Celtic – 32 appearance – 1 goal against Ria Stars in the Rothmans Cup first round in July 2000.

Celtic were relegated after being docked three points for using a suspended player with Mkhonza playing the most games. 

2001/02 – Ria Stars – 30 appearances

Ria Stars were then sold after a season in which only Lucky Lekgwathi and Dukes Machaka had more appearances playing under five coaches.

2002/03 – Golden Arrows – 30 appearances – 1 goal against Kaizer Chiefs in the Coca-Cola Cup

Made his Bafana debut in October 2002 in a Castle Lager third place play-off against Tanzania in a team coached by Shakes Mashaba and captained by John Tlale.

His second cap came against Zimbabwe in the COSAFA Castle Cup in July 2003.   

2003/04 – Golden Arrows – 27 appearances – as he won a further two Bafana Bafana caps against Lesotho and Egypt both of which were friendly matches.

2004/05 – Kaizer Chiefs – 28 appearances – arrived at Chiefs along with Scara Ngobese and ended the season as league and Coca-Cola Cup winner. 

Injury time Bafana Bafana appearances against Nigeria and Australia.

2005/06 – Kaizer Chiefs – 14 appearances – won the ABSA Cup. 

2006/07 – Kaizer Chiefs – 16 appearances – won the SAA Supa8. 

Won the last of his seven caps against Egypt. 

2007/08 – SuperSport United – 7 appearances – won the league. 

2008/09 – Maritzburg United – 20 appearances (1 goal against Santos in the Nedbank Cup).

2009/10 – AmaZulu – 11 appearances and played in the Nedbank Cup final defeat to BidVest Wits at the newly opened FNB Stadium.

2010/11 – AmaZulu – 2 appearances.

2011/12 – Black Leopards – 3 appearances. 

Total – 251 appearances (3 goals) & 7 Bafana Bafana caps.
