Sekhukhune United suffered a 1-0 loss to Stade Malien Bamako in the CAF Confederation Cup group stages on Wednesday evening.

The DStv Premiership side featured goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner, with the much-talked about Elias Mokwana in the mix too and Kamohelo Mokotjo shifted from midfield to defence,

Ohizu very nearly got the breakthrough after a relatively even start from the set of teams, but he managed to steer wide of the mark.

The threat unsettled the host to a certain extent, and urged them to stage a balancing attack between their defensive and offensive third.

Both teams went all out in the final exchanges to halftime in a quest for the opener, but neither were able to get a look in and ended the half score-less.

Sekhukhune were eager to get going in the opening stages of the second half and witnessed a telling corner put the host in a spot of bother.

Thereafter, a rasping shot from Thamsanqa Mkhize just around the half-way mark draw a block after good work from Ohizu, Thamsanqa Masiya and Vusimuzi Mncube.

Malien Bamako pulled ahead midway in the second half courtesy of a smartly taken effort from Franck Tiesse who executed Dramane Traore’s delivery.

Babina Noko made a double change later on, with the introduction of Jamie Webber for Mokotjo and Tashreeq Morries in place of Thamsanqa Masiya.

Webber looked to salvage a point in the final stages through a promising free-kick, but didn’t manage to get an opening as Babina Noko succumbed to defeat in Bamako.
