Sekhukhune United climbed to ninth spot on the DStv Premiership table with a 2-0 victory over Chippa United on Wednesday evening.

A few changes from Sekhukhune had Renaldo Leaner in for Badra Ali Sangare before Lebohang Mabotja slotted in for Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya with Jamie Webber back from the win over Diables Noirs in the CAF Confederation Cup group stages.

Chippa provided the first scare in the opening minute from the head of Justice Chabalala following a corner-kick, but he went high and wide of target.

Babina Noko staged a swift reply through a teasing shot towards the centre of the area by Jamie Webber before Vusimuni Mncube had a similar effort parried.

The chances didn’t stop falling for either side though their inability to find the net proved pretty costly and in that left the clash goalless.

Once feared Orlando Pirates duo Augustine Mulenga and Luvuyo Memela struck a combination to open up a chance but nothing came of the initiative.

Chippa were reduced to ten-men five minutes after halftime when Zuko Mdunyelwa committed a poor foul to receive a second yellow before a red card followed suit.

Babina Noko were desperate to make use of the man advantage minutes later and threatened from the head of Mncube following a delivery, but he missed target.

The host kept probing with 20 minutes to play and took the lead when Webber picked up a loose pass from Elias Mokwana to thumped in from the right of the area.

It was two after five minutes as Chibuike Ohizu picked up Mncube to draw a yard of space in the box and fired in the bottom corner.

Babina Noko contained the final minutes and wrapped up the win to go ninth on the table, with the Chilli Boys down in 13th place.
