Former Kaizer Chiefs star Leonardo Castro’s wife has praised South Africa, insisting that she got to fulfill her dreams in Mzansi. Here’s a look!
The story
The Colombian striker spent seven years in South Africa between 2015 and 2022, wearing the colours of local giants Mamelodi Sundowns and Chiefs. Although his time at Naturena proved fruitless, it was at Chloorkop where he shone the brightest, as he claimed five honours with the Pretoria outfit, including two league titles and the CAF Champions League.
In March 2023, he moved to the United States third-tier side Greenville Triumph SC and he remains on the books of the club until his contract expires in November 2024.

Having since traded Gauteng for the US state South Carolina, Castro’s wife Estefania Burbano recently reminisced on the wonderful seven years she and her family spent in Mzansi.
In an Instagram post, where she is posing alongside Zulu tribal dancers, revealed that she thinks about her time in the country very fondly.
“I really don't even want to count how many years ago this was but as long as they are in my head and in my heart, each of these memories will always be alive,” Burbano wrote.
“Thank you South Africa, I fulfilled many of my dreams there.”
Burbano is also a blogger, with some of her leading passions seemingly being exploring some of the best tourist attractions and absorbing some unique cultural experiences. During the couples' stay in Mzansi, the tight knit Castro family visited places like the Union Buildings, and The Elephant Sanctuary Hartbeespoort Dam - just to name a few.
Amazed by the mesmerisingly diverse wildlife of South in 2022, Burbano didn’t hide her genuine feelings about SA as she wrote: “I can’t make a comparison between my country Colombia and South Africa because they are very different, both are wonderful but I can only say that a big part of my heart belongs to South Africa.”
