Percy Tau has been shown the love and is now in the running to win a big award.

The ceremony is scheduled to take place on Sunday, 5th May 2024 at the Sun City Superbowl, North-West. It is where football fans around the country will be hoping that Tau will collect a trophy.

The former Brighton & Hove Albion star has been included in the list of People's Choice Nominees alongside Springbok stars Eben Etzebeth and Siya Kolisi, marathon and ultramarathon athlete Girda Steyn, and sailor Kirsten Neuschafer.

Tau's nomination comes after being a part of the Bafana Bafana side that reached the semi-finals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations where they fell just short of reaching the final, losing 4-2 on penalties.

In terms of club football, the attacker has represented the country well, winning the treble with his current club in a resounding 2022/23 season that contributed to him being crowned CAF's Men's Inter-Club Player of the Year. He became the first ever South African to win the award.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns man will be hoping to add another trophy to his personal cabinet following his nomination.

Kodwa said that the country's athletes have done the nation proud in recent times.

“The 17th edition of the South African Spors Awards take place in a significant time in South Africa’s history. We celebrate 30 years of democracy, and our national athletes and teams have been raising the nation’s flag sky high,' he said.

"In the South African Sport Awards, we celebrate the role sport continues to play to unite our diverse people, and in lifting the nation’s mood.”
