And then there were two …

Steve Komphela and Gordon Igesund the final two for Bafana

Posted: 18 June 2012 Time: 3:51 pm

The race to become the next Bafana Bafana coach has become a two-horse one, with Gordon Igesund and Steve Komphela the two men in the running.

Safa sources reveal that the Moroka Swallows and Free State Stars coaches will make a final presentation to the executive committee on June 30, after which the decision will be made on who succeeds Pitso Mosimane.

Neil Tovey, Shakes Mashaba, Igesund and Gavin Hunt were interviewed last Thursday, while Komphela only met the panel today after leading the national team to a 3-0 win against Gabon on Friday evening.

But it was Igesund and Komphela who impressed most – and it is now one of those two who will become the next Bafana coach.

It is sad that a decision will be based on how good your presentation is, than how good you are in as far as coaching is concerned. Its sad that Shakes wont get this job. He is the most deserving man from the 5 that were interviewed.

Sometimes things will make you wonder. Why isn't the decision being made now. What is there to be figured out that cannot be done?.

Can one game make you a good coach? If Komphela lost the game on friday will he be in contention?Obviously no,so why is this dragging?

Safa taking for a ride, obvuosly the will give Gordon the head coach job and Khompela as an assistant.....but our football is in crisis and the SAFA leadership has failed us together with Pitso, they should step down.

I would love if safa can gave Kompela da chance, then if we see no defference bring Igusand. It seems as if Kompela can make what we want as suppoters.

Didn't Komphela fail the nation at under 23 level? In all fairness, Gordon deserves a chance. This is not an English speaking test, it is a national team coaching post.

What's all this dilly dallying when we all know that Igesund is the man for the job. Just make it official, and let Komphela be the assistant period. I am telling you guys, it is Igesund or bust. Never has there been a coach who can create something out of nothing. Who would have thought Moroka Swallows of all teams would have given us a run for our money?
