More African eyes are set to be on the Banyana Banyana pair of Thembi Kgatlana and Linda Motlhalo following a recent announcement by a broadcaster. Here's a look!

The story

ESPN Africa have confirmed that they will air games  from the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), which widely considered the best top-flight in women's football.

This means that African audiences can now catch some of the best players from the continent in action for their respective clubs in the United States.

Games will be televised on DStv Channel 218, with supporters now having an opportunity to watch the likes of Kgatlana and Motlhalo live, as they haven't been able to see these stars playing in real-time.

“We are excited to introduce the National Women's Soccer League to complement our existing high quality and exciting programming line-up,” said Kyle De Klerk, Director of Sports for The Walt Disney Company Africa. “The NWSL has attracted some of the best African footballers and we are excited to showcase their talents to our ESPN audiences across Africa.”

The two players are an integral part of their team overseas, with both having joined new clubs at the start of the 2024 season.

Kgatlana represents Mexican side Club Tigre Femenil, while Mothlalo rocks the colours on Racing Louisville FC. Many could view this broadcasting deal as a step forward given many had to wait for Banyana games in order to watch their favourite overseas-based Banyana stars.

Other prominent stars who are flying the African flag in the US include Zambian star Barbra Banda, Malawi international Temwa Chawinga (Kansas City), and Nigerian sensation Michelle Alozie (Houston Dash).

The two South African ballers appear to be in good spirits in North America and you can have a glimpse of what's been happening in their lives of late - see below!
