Real Madrid's all-time XI based on transfer fees

Between 2000 and 2013, Real Madrid broke the world transfer record five times. Here is the LaLiga giants' all-time starting XI based on transfer fees, which includes Cristiano Ronaldo and manager Zinedine Zidane.

In 2000, Los Blancos broke the bank to sign Portugal superstar Luis Figo from FC Barcelona, sparking a wave of heavy spending by the club that has extended over the past two decades.

Real have since splashed the cash on some of football's biggest names, to such an extent that Figo is no longer among their most expensive players.

Instead, the line-up is dominated by the likes of Zidane, Kaka, Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, all of whom smashed the world's transfer record when they became members of the record 13-time LaLiga champions' famed Galacticos club.

Ronaldo and Bale feature in a three-man attack alongside this season's €100 million (R1.99 billion) signing Eden Hazard, after their respective €94 million (R1.87 billion) and €101 million (R2 billion) moves in 2009 and 2013, respectively.

Behind them, Zidane stars in midfield alongside Brazil legend Kaka, whose €67 million (R1.3 billion) world record fee stood for less than two weeks before being broken by Ronaldo's arrival, and Colombia international James Rodriguez.

The defensive unit is made up of three former FC Porto stars, whose combined fees total €109.5 (R2.18 billion), and an ex-Olympique Lyon fullback, while Thibaut Courtois features in goal as the most expensive goalkeeper in the club's history.
