Giroud may not be able to secure himself a regular starting berth in the Premier League but he remains an integral part of the Les Blues set-up under manager Didier Deschamps.
The towering striker was first-choice for France during their triumphant 2018 FIFA World Cup campaign and has profited from Benzema's exile that begun in 2016.
The Real striker has not been called up in four years and has not been able to add to his 27 goals in 81 caps for the European giants - while Giroud has moved up to 39 goals in 93 games.
Only Thierry Henry and Michel Platini has scored more goals for the nation but Benzema made it clear how he feels about the Chelsea player, who will be out of contract at the end of this season.
"You don't compare Formula 1 with karting, and I am being nice," Benzema said on Instagram Live. "Next…I know that I am Formula 1.
"It works because he is there, that is the only reason. It won't be spectacular, he won't do something amazing, but he has his thing. Aside from that, does everyone like the way he plays? I don't know."
Earlier this year Benzema threatened to represent Algeria after the French Football Federation (FFF) president Noel Le Graët ended his international career.
