The Cameroon international sustained the knock prior to Saturday’s 5-1 win over Brighton and will also sit out tomorrow’s European Cup clash at Anfield and the Merseyside Derby against Everton on Sunday.
And while there is no return date set for Matip, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is hopeful of having him back in time for the jam-packed festive period.
"He [Matip] has hurt his muscle. I don't know how long exactly he'll be out, but he's definitely not playing Wednesday," Klopp said.
"A month? No, I don't think so. But as always, it's possible. We have to wait.
"But it's possible that it will be shorter. We will see."
