Legendary former referee Errol Sweeney is confident he has a solution to improve the standard of refereeing in South Africa, which has been perceived as poor owing to a consistent run of shocking decisions during matches.
Known as the 'Hanging Judge' within the Mzansi football community, the Ireland-based ex-referee expressed his disappointment with the current state of officiating in the country.

Despite numerous attempts to contact the SAFA Head of Referees Abdul Ebrahim, Sweeney was unable to reach him or anyone at the organisation.
"I wouldn't call it a 'refereeing crisis,' but the reports I've received regarding the standard of match officiating are concerning, and that poses a significant problem for SAFA," Sweeney told KickOff.com.
He adds, "SAFA is the organization responsible for refereeing."
Sweeney claims he has a solution, though he is unsure if the authorities will agree to it.
He refrained from sharing specific details with this website, stating that he fears others might steal his ideas.
"It would take too long to explain everything, and there wouldn't be enough space on this forum to go into detail.
"However, I know what needs to be done. I require an invitation to discuss my plan publicly. I cannot 'gatecrash' any organization," he explained.

"I can't share my plan for publication because it might be taken by someone else. I'm willing to discuss it with the relevant authorities upon request.
"It's all about what is necessary to recruit and retain referees, as well as to train, mentor, and coach referees and assistant referees up to, including, World Cup level."
