Bernard Parker Kaizer Chiefs derby

The rejuvenated Bernard Parker has added another personal milestone to his many accolades at Kaizer Chiefs following his latest appearance for the club.

The Chiefs veteran has now left Itumeleng Khune in his wake to be the sole occupant of a special seat at the club after featuring in the 2-1 win over Orlando Pirates.

The 35-year-old put in a 90-minute shift in Chiefs' latest edition of the Soweto derby.

In doing so he took his tally for appearances in this renowned fixture to 28 matches.

This makes Parker the man who has the most Soweto derby appearances of all active playing currently at the club.

Parker has surpassed Khune who has made 27 derby appearances.

Khune has not played the last nine derby meetings with his last appearance in this fixture having been three years ago when he captained Chiefs in the Telkom Knockout semi-final defeat.

An assortment of injuries plus lack of game time-related matters have restricted Khune from adding to his tally.

Parker has not played in just three derbies through the decade that he has spent at Chiefs.

Only Siphiwe Tshabalala played in more derbies than Parker in the PSL era years with 31 appearances.

The plus for Parker is that he is now the top scorer in all competitions for the club since August 1996 when domestic football became known as the PSL.

He has 60 goals for Chiefs which he stands to stretch further this term just like he has a chance to also overtake Tshabalala if he stays on at Naturena beyond the end of this season.
