Pirates keeper shining at the top with reward looming

While Orlando Pirates could still play another 31 games this season, Sipho Chaine has already put himself in prime position for the consistency award at the club.

Chaine has been the only ever-present player at Pirates this season, featuring throughout every minute of all 25 games played to date.

Not only has he been between the posts, he has delivered solid performances.

The 28-year-old has conceded five from 11 games in the Betway Premiership, three in nine Champions League matches, while in five domestic cup ties, he has been beaten six times.

It has only been once that he has conceded more than one in a single game, which happened in that 3-2 Carling Knockout defeat to Magesi FC.

Along the way, he has made his way to Bafana Bafana and earned his first cap and now sits as the number two behind Ronwen Williams.

Chaine's rise has come after starting down the pecking order upon arriving from Chippa United in September 2022.

He joined with Richard Ofori battling injury and blunder demons, Wayne Sandilands on his way out and Siyabonga Mpontshane fading away.

With his break at the beginning of 2023, Chaine hasn't looked back, cruising through two calendar years and has since started the New Year on the same fast lane.

Though he is locked into a contract for another two seasons, Pirates will have taken note of the need to improve his terms and keep him happy.

Of the ever-presents this season, Darren Keet has played every minute for Cape Town City throughout the 18 games played by the club in all competitions.

Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has been on the field for every minute at Chippa United in all their 12 games.

Taariq Fielies has also done the same at AmaZulu FC across all competitions.
