The biggest reason why Kaizer Chiefs are yet to make marquee signings so far has been revealed.
Chiefs reportedly targeted former Polokwane City midfielder Elias Mokwana, as one of the potential signings, earmarked by new head coach Nasreddine Nabi.
However, Esperance de Tunis eventually won the race to sign the Bafana Bafana midfielder, as previously reported by this website.
According to reports, Esperance are also closing-in on another player that is on Amakhosi's priority list, Oswin Appollis.
Chiefs also recently, according to Soccer Laduma, had their initial bid of approximately R10 million for left wing-back Fawaaz Basadien rejected by Stellenbosch.
The Glamour Boys are in desperate need of attacking quality and also need to solve their left-back crisis, after a 4-0 defeat by Young Africans exposed their shortcomings ahead of the new season.
Although Chiefs still have around six weeks before they start their Betway Premiership campaign, Nabi has revealed that the reason they are yet to grab the headlines with new signings is because other clubs are not willing to sell to them.
"Looking at the market it is very tight and very closed, a lot of clubs do not want to release their players to us, they don't wanna sell their players to us," Nabi said on SuperSport Blitz.
"However, we're still gonna have to look and find that right player, that we gonna put on the field and give us a plus," the former FAR Rabat mentor added.
Chiefs have so far only made two signings, goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari and defender Rushwin Dortley.
The Soweto giants cannot afford to get into the new season with the same attack they had in the last campaign, after the team only scored 25 goals in 30 league matches.
Relegated Cape Town Spurs scored two goals fewer than Chiefs.
