Chiefs are set to take on Zambian champions ZESCO United in their CAF Confederation cup group stage decider at the FNB Stadium on Saturday evening.
Having suffered a 3-1 defeat in the away leg last week Sunday, Amakhosi require victory by at least a two-goal margin as well as a clean sheet to progress in the competition.
After once again failing to register a clean-sheet in their Absa Premiership with AmaZulu in midweek, Vries believes they now need to look back and apply the principles from their previous clean-sheets against the likes of Bidvest Wits, Elgeco Plus and SuperSport United.
“We have to go back and look at the recent matches in which we had clean-sheets and apply the same principles, mind-set, hunger and desire,” said Vries.
“Because I believe it’s a small margin between being focussed, concentrated and being part of the game and losing that, which is what is costing us.
“If you look at the goals that we conceded in the past two games, it’s as a result of our own [mistakes]. We know and are aware of it, and we will use [today’s] training session to get back to being able to say, ‘the clean-sheets are coming’.
“It all comes with confidence and not making mistakes, and not conceding goals helps you build momentum.”
The 27-year-old former Baroka gloveman has also called on the Khosi faithful to get behind them at the Calabash on Saturday, while outlining the team’s intentions.
“I’d like to ask the Kaizer Chiefs fans to come out and support us. It’s going to be a memorable day, where we are going to be happy,” he added.
“Staying home, you will be missing out on the whole environment at the stadium, because for us it’s about going through to the next round.
“No matter how we go through, as long as we go into the group stages, which is what we are focussing on.”
Kick-off for tomorrow evening's encounter is scheduled for 20h00.
