Official: Al Ahly confirm new manager and technical team ahead of 2019/20 season

Egyptian giants Al Ahly have confirmed the appointment of former Anderlecht coach Rene Weiler as their new manager, who has been set a mandate to win the CAF Champions League.

Since Martin Lasarte's departure last month, a host of names were linked with the vacancy at the African giants including former Zamalek coach Jaime Pacheco, Roger Schmidt, Felix Magath and Massimo Carrera.   But Swiss tactician Weiler, who was also linked with the White Knights has since been confirmed as the new leader at 'The Club of the Century.'   The 45-year-old comes with a huge reputation after stints in his homeland, Germany and Belgium, with his most successful period coming in his previous job in the First League A.   Weiler lifted the Belgian league title, the Belgian Super Cup and enjoyed a memorable UEFA Europa League run, where they lost to Manchester United in the quarter-finals 3-2 on aggregate.
