CAF Champions League match report Cote d'Or v Mamelodi Sundowns 14 September 2019

Mamelodi Sundowns have taken control in their CAF Champions League second round tie after thrashing Cote d'Or 5-0 in the first leg on Saturday afternoon.   Reyaad Pieterse was given a start between the sticks as Kennedy Mweene was named on the bench, while Andile Jali and Tiyani Mabunda were restored to the midfield. Mabunda certainly repaid the faith shown by Pitso Mosimane after putting the Brazilians ahead after just five minutes with neat header from close range.   The visitors continued pressurising for a second goal, with Promise Mkhulise and Sibusiso Vilakazi causing problems in the final third although the former squandered a good chance after 19 minutes.   Pitso Mosimane's troops were able to enjoy a lot of the ball in the opening half, but were unable to turn that possession into more goals while Pieterse was barely tested at the other end.   Sundowns picked up from where they left off in the first half, but Wayne Arendse came to his side's rescue 10 minutes after the break with a vital goal-line clearance to keep Sundowns ahead. However, the visitors eventually secured the two-goal cushion with just over 20 minutes remaining in the second half with a close range header from Lyle Lakay.   Lakay was not done there as the Sundowns full-back turned provider two minutes later to pick out Mkhulise, who could not miss from close range as the visitors took a commanding lead. There was enough time for a fourth goal as Mabunda completed a rare brace with neat finish into the top corner on 74 minutes as Mosimane's men ran riot.   With six minutes to play, Arendse managed to get in on the act as the Sundowns central defender found the bottom corner to make it 5-0 to the South African champions.   Team news:   Sundowns: Pieterse, Madisha, Langerman, Arendse, Lakay, Soumahoro, Mabunda, Jali, Manyisa, Mkhulise, Vilakazi.   Subs: Mweene, Lebus, Sirino, Ngcongca, Zwane, Maboe.
