N'Golo Kante crowned football writers' footballer of the year

It marks a second award for the 26-year old French international, who also won the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) Player of the Year for 2016-17 last month

Chelsea’s Belgian forward Eden Hazard came in second place, while Tottenham and England midfielder Dele Alli was third.

Kante helped Leicester City win the Premier League title last season and looks like he will do the same this year with Chelsea.

Chelsea moved one step closer to the title on Monday night with a 3-0 win over Middlesbrough at Stamford Bridge. The result saw Middlesbrough relegated.

The Blues lead the table by seven points over second-placed Spurs with three games to go.
