Ruthless Portugal thrash Czech Republic

Czech Republic 0-4 Portugal

Portugal thrashed the Czech Republic 4-0 to move top of Group 2 in League A ahead of Spain with a game to spare.

Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot gave the away side the lead late in the first half and carried the advantage into the halftime period.

Dalot’s club mate Bruno Fernandes added to their advantage after the break, before Dalot himself bagged a second goal and left Diogo Jota to complete the rout late on.

Spain 1-2 Switzerland

Spain stumbled to a disappointing 2-1 loss against Switzerland and had their 22-match unbeaten run at home come to an end in the UEFA Nations League on Saturday.

The Swiss stunned the home nation when Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji towered above the defence and headed in a floating corner-kick from inside the six-yard area.

Luis Enrique’s men went into halftime behind, but were level minutes after through a delightful finish at the far post of the six-yard area by full-back Jordi Alba.

Parity was restored within the matter of minutes by the Swiss courtesy of a close-range finish by Breel Embolo, which proved to be the winner that ended La Roja’s long-standing unbeaten run at home.

Serbia 4-1 Sweden

A hat-trick from Aleksandar Mitrovic guided Serbia to promotion to League A from League B Group 4 after thumpingSweden 4-1 in Belgrade.

It was the Swedes that made the opening 15 minutes gone courtesy of Viktor Claesson before Mitrovic evened matters and bagged a second goal after the break.

Torino midfielder Sasa Lukic granted the host a third goal during the course of the second period and left Mitrovic to bag his third to complete a fine evening’s work.

Scotland 2-1 Republic of Ireland

Scotland came from behind to see off the Republic of Ireland 2-1 at Hampden Park in a League B, Group 1 match.

Ireland hit the front in the opening 20 minutes with a stunning finish from John Egan after Scotland struggled to deal with a penetrative ball around their six-yard area.

The home outfit responded following halftime through Jack Hendry before Ryan Christie left the Irish heartbroken.

Slovenia 2-1 Norway

Slovenia finally got a win in League B of the Nations League through a 2-1 triumph at home to Norway and eased their relegation chances.

Manchester City star man Erling Braut Haaland transferred his scoring exploits over to the national team as he broke the deadlock for the away side shortly after halftime.

Slovenia hit back well inside the closing quarter when Andraz Sporar bagged the leveller before rising star Benjamin Sesko grabbed the winner near the end of the match.
