With reports claiming that Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo will meet again in a "last dance" match early next year, Inter Miami have now issued a contradictory statement on the matter.

Reports emerged on Tuesday suggesting that a fixture between the MLS club and Al Nassr had been scheduled for February 2024.

It was claimed the two teams would be joined by another Saudi side, Al Hilal, as part of the Riyadh Season Cup.

More importantly, the occasion was said to be a final showdown between Messi and Ronaldo, who are considered titans of the sport given their extensive rivalry over the past decade and a bit.

The last time the two players met was also in an exhibition match back in January 2022, when the Argentine's former side Paris Saint-Germain took on a Saudi Pro League All-Stars XI in Riyadh, with the French club winning 5-4.

However, with the news of the "last dance" having drawn a lot of interest, the Major League Soccer outfit has since responded, saying no such match has been agreed.

"Earlier today, an announcement was issued stating that Inter Miami CF is scheduled to play in the Riyadh Season Cup. This is inaccurate," the statement by the David Beckham-co-owned club read.

"The release included statements attributed to team owner Jorge Mas.

"Mas has made no comments, publicly or privately, in relation to the preseason tour.

"Since day one, Inter Miami CF has set out to be a global brand. To this end, we have been in conversations to determine our 2024 preseason schedule.

"We look forward to showcasing our players on Inter Miami CF's first international tour which will be announced in the coming weeks."

With Inter Miami having also recently called off their planned tour of China due to unforeseen circumstances, it remains to be seen if a final match between the two superstars' team can yet be arranged.
