Defending champions FC Barcelona remained in touching distance with leaders Real Madrid following a narrow 1-0 win over Cadiz CF.

Only Pau Cubarsi and Sergi Roberto maintained their starting berths for Barca following the thrilling midweek win over Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.

Portuguese international Joao Felix opened up proceedings ten minutes to halftime when he drilled an overhead kick right from the far-post beyond a certain Ledesma.

Rising star Fermin Lopez very nearly added a second just before the interval after latching onto a loose ball in the box, but he had his strike cleared from the goal-line.

Cadiz almost got back level minutes in the resumption when Juanmi rose unmarked in the box to head in a pin-point cross, but he was flagged for offside.

Felix were denied a brace late on when he cut in-field after picking up a loose pass, but he in the end nestled the post following the low surging strike.

Barca still had done enough to see out the win and remain hot on the heels of fierce rivals Real Madrid for the title.

Real Mallorca 0-1 Real Madrid

Real Madrid strengthened their grip on top spot in LaLiga after overcoming Mallorca 1-0 to sit eight points off FC Barcelona on Saturday evening.

All of Dani Carvajal, Vinicius Junior, Arda Guler and Rodrygo Goes were on the bench but Eder Militao returned having recently returned from a serious injury.

Following a thrilling draw in midweek with England’s Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, Los Blancos were slow out of the blocks with the host keen to cause an upset.

However, the visitors were alive and had a curling shot from the box by Jude Bellingham following a forward pass by Aurelien Tchouameni cleared the upright.

The Frenchman did made amends two minutes in the second half when he thundered in from 30-yards out and give a certain Jeremias Ledesma no chance.

Madrid were in total control at this current juncture and in fact had moments to extend the deficit through substitute Vinicius notably but couldn’t capitalise at all.
