Manchester City players ignored Erling Haaland during the match against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League, according to a former Los Blancos star.

Los Blancos and Man City played to an entertaining 3-3 draw in the first leg of their quarter-final at Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday.

Surpsiringly, Haaland was kept quiet for most of the encounter by defender Antonio Rudiger while he was called a League Two player by Roy Keane after the draw against Arsenal.

Former Madrid midfielder Rafael van der Vaart feels if Haaland is not scoring goals, he doesn't offer much to Pep Guardiola's side.

"I think he was really bad. If Haaland doesn't score, he doesn't do much for the team. Obviously he's fast and works hard, but he's average with the ball," Van der Vaart told VoetbalPrimeur.

"If you are now so good, and everyone is talking about it, then you should show more.

"It could have been a little better. It looked really clumsy today (Tuesday), I thought. City needed a striker who could hold onto the ball, and that has never worked with Haaland. "

I think they ignored him on purpose at one point, he was really the worst on the pitch today."
