Burnley manager Vincent Kompany has been punished by the Premier League.

South Africa star Lyle Foster's manager at Burnley, Vincent Kompany, has now been hit with huge fine and a ban by the English FA.

The Belgian tactician has been given a two-match ban and a fine of £10 000 (about R235 000) for misconduct.

The former Manchester City captain was shown a red card during the Clarets' match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on 30 March for dissent after he erupted into an anger-fuelled protest against the match referee for sending off one of his players.

It has now been confirmed that he will serve a two-game touchline ban, one of which is suspended until 31 December 2024.

A statement on the club's official website confirmed: "Burnley FC's Vincent Kompany has been fined £10 000 and suspended from the touchline for two matches following misconduct at their Premier League game against Chelsea FC on Saturday 30 March. One match is to be served immediately and one match suspended until 31 December 2024.

"The manager admitted that his language and/or behaviour in the 40th minute of the fixture was improper and/or abusive and/or insulting towards a match official and/or questioned the integrity of a match official.

"An independent Regulatory Commission imposed his sanctions following a subsequent hearing."

After that game against Chelsea, Kompany maintained that he would not shy away from expressing his frustration at refereeing decisions even if he is going to be charged.

"I'll keep saying what I think," he said in the wake of the game, per the Daily Mail. "I'm not shying away from it and I've said it to the referees themselves, the officials, refereeing hasn't been good enough this season.

"And I have said that in, I think, a constructive way, understanding as well the fact it's not easy for them. The scrutiny is massive, the pressure is bigger than it's ever been on the officials.

"I think the addition of VAR and more opinions and more officials doesn't make it easy for them to do their jobs. I haven't got any issues with being fined. I just want it to be right."

With just six games to go in the Premier League, Burnley are 19th on the table, five points from safety.

Foster, meanwhile, has been one of the few bright sparks for the side, thanks to his four goals and three assists in 18 EPL games.

Notably, however, the Bafana Bafana striker has not scored for the team since December 2023, when he found the target against Aston Villa.
