The alleged rape is said to have taken place on Friday night, with the victim reporting the incident hours later.

As a result, one starlet was said to have been questioned briefly by officers at his team's stadium on suspicion of assault and aiding and abetting a rape.

Shortly after being allowed to leave the ground, however, he was reportedly put into handcuffs and spent the night at a police station, where he was questioned by detectives.

His teammate was then arrested on suspicion of rape the following the day, and underwent questioning.

An official police statement, per The Sun, confirmed that the two teenagers, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had been taken in.

The EPL has experienced similar occurrences in the past, including that involving Mason Greenwood, the Manchester United striker who is currently on loan at Getafe, while Red Devils winger Antony was also accused of sexual assault in the past year.

Last year, former Manchester City fullback Benjamin Mendy was cleared of several charges of rape after strenuous legal proceedings, and now plays for Ligue 1 side Lorient.
