Arsenal star Bukayo Saka has revealed he grew up idolising Cristiano Ronaldo.

Arsenal sensation Bukayo Saka has revealed why it is Cristiano Ronaldo who is, perhaps surprisingly, his idol.

The England international has been one of the standout performers for his side this season, registering an impressive 16 goals and 15 assists in all competitions so far.

Over the past three seasons, Saka has established himself as one of the best wingers in Europe, having also helped the Gunners to a rare title challenge last term and a return to UEFA Champions League football.

Despite being a known boyhood Arsenal fan, Saka has now revealed that Manchester United icon Ronaldo was his idol growing up, and he is even more impressed that the five-time Ballon d'Or winner is still going strong despite being 39 years old.

Speaking on the Men in Blazers podcast, the 22-year-old explained: "Personally, I can't [imagine playing for as long as Ronaldo], and that's why I have so much respect for him.

"Obviously, when I was younger, he was my idol, but now that I'm playing football professionally, I have even more respect for him, how he's managed to stay this disciplined and this focused, and achieve everything he's achieved, so yeah, he's special."

Meanwhile, there are emerging reports that French giants Paris Saint-Germain are willing to splash huge cash to secure Saka's signature amid Kylian Mbappe's impending departure in June.

According to Sportsmole, PSG are prepared to bid more than £120 million (R2.8 billion) for the Three Lions star.

The move would likely be difficult to pull off, though, with it claimed that Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta would not sanction that deal, while it is also believed that the player's exit would upset the London club's fans, something the club would rather avoid.
