Cameroon's new head coach has been confirmed, but the country's FA, headed up by Samuel Eto'o, has insisted it wasn't informed of the decision

The Indomitable Lions were marred with scandal at the latest Africa Cup of Nations, with the team riddled with on and off-field issues.

Their elimination in the round of 16 certainly did not make matters better, but instead put more pressure on then-manager Song.

After initial reports suggested that the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) was keen to retain Song's services until 2026, things quickly changed as the former player and tactician was dismissed from his role not long after the tournament concluded.

On Tuesday night, Belgian coach Marc Brys was announced by Cameroon's sports ministry as Song's permanent replacement during a national television broadcast.

The 61-year-old, who has no prior national team managerial experience, will be assisted by Joachim Mununga and Giannis Xilouris, while new technical, medical and administrative staff were also named.

However, Brys' appointment is not without controversy as it has left Eto'o's FECAFOOT enraged, claiming that they were not informed of the decision.

"The Cameroonian Football Federation learned, at the same time as all Cameroonians, of the appointment to positions of responsibility within the National Senior Men's Football Selection," a statement from FECAFOOT after the announcement read, as per Camfoot.

"FECAFOOT expresses its great astonishment at this act which is contrary to the terms of Decree No. 2014/384 of September 26, 2014 relating to the organisation and operation of national football teams."
