José Peseiro is said to be earning $50 000 a month after taking a pay cut to extend his stay with the Nigeria national team.

Current Nigeria boss Jose Peseiro's salary has now reportedly been revealed amid speculation linking South African coach Pitso Mosimane with the job.

The Portuguese coach is currently on a contract that sees him earning $50 000 (about R951 500) a month, according to OwnGoal Nigeria

The former Porto boss initially took on the role in May 2022, and led the Super Eagles to 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification with his contract said to have run until June this year.

However, Peseiro revealed in October that he opted to take a pay cut, having reportedly been on $70 000 (about R1.3 million) a month before choosing to extend his tenure as Nigeria's head coach.

He admitted that the players' belief that they can win the AFCON set to take place in Ivory Coast early next year persuaded him to agree to extend his stay on reduced terms.

In recent times, however, the former Al Ahly boss has come under intense scrutiny after Nigeria's poor start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, drawing against Lesotho and Zimbabwe in their first two encounters, with the Nigeria Football Federation said to be unhappy with the Portuguese tactician as a result.

Mosimane, meanwhile, has been linked with Peseiro's job following his departure from United Arab Emirates club Al Wahda last month.

The three-time CAF Champions League winner is now available for work and is said to be in high demand.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns boss has also admitted to being open to considering the Nigeria job should it be offered to him, but whether or not he receives such an approach or if he would be offered more than what Peseiro is currently being paid for the role remains to be seen.
