If Colombian striker Efmamjjasond Gonzalez has had it bad at Kaizer Chiefs during his loan spell, then what awaits him upon his return to South America is worse.

Gonzalez has been a disappointment at Chiefs after failing to provide solutions up front and instead has drowned into the troubles that have become the definition of the club as they complete nine years of silverware darkness.

The Colombian was expected to be an improvement to what Burundian striker Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana gave the club with his eight goals in 21 appearances last season but has suffered the misfortune of no goals in 13 games.

He has also failed to play any match from start to finish, including the four that he has started.

If the situation at Chiefs has been a frying pan, then he will find himself walking into the fire upon his return to parent club Real Santa Cruz in Bolivia.

Miguel Abrigo, Miguel Zahzu, Cristian Farah, Horacio Barrenechea and Andres Marinangeli have all held the fort as head coaches (caretaker or substantively) in the period since Gonzalez left nine months ago.

The reason for these changes has been the line of bad results which have worsened this year at the club.

While Gonzalez has felt the frustration of Chiefs winning just twice in a dozen games this year, it is worse at Santa Cruz, who have won once in 10 matches.

Santa have lost all five of their most recent games in the Bolivian Premera Division, which have included a bottom place finish in Group A of the Apertura, where they played eight games.

They are now bottom of the 16-team Clausura after losing the opening two matches.

With Gonzalez heading back to Santa Cruz after Chiefs’ last match on Saturday, he will walk into a worse situation than what he had to deal with at the Soweto giants.

The 24-year-old left Santa Cruz as top scorer but has now failed to score in 22 matches in a row, inclusive of those he has played at Chiefs.
