Al Ahly have now reportedly decided to part ways with arguably their biggest signing this season, less than a year after he joined.

The Cairo giants have had their Egyptian Premier League season disrupted by the various other tournaments they are competing in, and have played only 11 league games so far compared to other teams in the division, who have played a maximum of 17.

Having lost 2-1 to arch-rivals Zamalek on Monday, they are now 11th on the EPL table, trailing leaders Pyramids FC by 11 points.

This is perhaps a stark contrast to their ambitions earlier this season, when they would have been hoping their blockbuster signings would have a big impact at the club, but things have not gone as planned.

One such example of an underwhelming signing has been French striker Anthony Modeste, who joined the club in September 2023 after leaving Borussia Dortmund in Germany.

The centre-forward has been the subject of a lot of criticism after scoring just four goals in 22 games across all competitions for Marcel Koller's side, trailing the team's current joint top scorers Kahraba and Hussein El Shahat, who have each scored nine times, while Percy Tau also has six goals to his name this term.

As such, per KingFut, the Red Devils have now decided that they will not extend Modeste's one-year deal at the club, which is set to expire in June.

The 36-year-old now looks likely to join a 13th club of his career, unless he finds himself joining one of his former sides, having previously had stints in France, Germany, England, and China.

The former Blackburn Rovers attacker may have one final chance to impress the Club of the Century's hierarchy, though, with Ahly set to kick off their two-legged CAF Champions League semi-final against TP Mazembe this weekend.
