Jose Peseiro, who guided Nigeria to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, has reportedly accepted an offer to take charge of Algeria.

One of Africa's biggest teams has now reportedly struck a deal with a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations boss to become their new head coach after he orchestrated a stunning campaign in the Ivory Coast.

According to Al-Hayat, per Awras, Portuguese manager Jose Peseiro has accepted the offer put forward by the Algerian Football Federation (FAF), who are on the hunt for a new man to lead its national team forward parting ways with Djamel Belmadi.

It is said that the tactician has sent his acceptance of the position in writing to FAF president Walid Sadi, while it is further claimed that an official announcement will be made during the course of next week.

Peseiro is reportedly not the association's first-choice candidate for the position, though, with it believed Swiss coach Vladimir Petkovic remains their top target.

Matters may yet become complicated, according to an Awras source, as the federation's chief has received a phone call from Petkovic's lawyer, expressing his client's interest in taking on the role, with it reported that the former Bordeaux manager has been granted 48 hours to give his final answer.

Algeria's hunt for a new boss comes after Belmadi was relieved of his duties following what many consider to be a disastrous 2023 Africa Cup of Nations campaign for the Greens.

The side went into the competition as one of the favourites, given some of the star names in the squad and the fact that they were crowned champions of the tournament's 2019 edition.

Peseiro, meanwhile, masterminded a campaign that saw Nigeria come close to winning their fourth AFCON, narrowly losing 2-1 to hosts Ivory Coast in the final of the competition.
