An Egypt national team doctor has now pointed the finger at Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp over Mohamed Salah's controversial injury saga.

The Pharaohs talisman is currently out injured with his exact return date yet to be confirmed, although Egypt remain hopeful that he will be fit to play in the latter stage of the Africa Cup of Nations if they progress that far.

After sustaining a hamstring injury during their second Group B game against Ghana, it was announced that Salah would fly to Liverpool for medical treatment after their final group match against Cape Verde earlier this week.

This news sparked widespread criticism, with some accusing the 31-year-old of prioritising his club over his country, while questions were also raised over Egypt's perceived lack of doctors to treat the player while he is in the national team camp.

This later prompted a statement from the forward's agent, clarifying that the Reds marksman's injury was a lot more severe than initially thought, thus leading to the decision to send him back to England.

This has inevitably led to some confusion around the matter, with an Egypt team doctor now insisting that Liverpool boss Klopp breached their agreement by prematurely making matters around Salah's injury public.

"When the initial statement from the EFA indicated that Salah would only miss two matches, we only conducted one X-ray on Salah," doctor Mohamed Abou El-Ela said, according to KingFut.

"However, after the second X-ray, we found that the injury was more severe.

"I don't expect someone to inform me about my job, and I am not authorised to announce injuries and their timing. My role is to treat the players only.

"We have sufficient capabilities, but we will travel in two days to the poorly equipped city of San-Pedro, so we found that treating Salah in Liverpool would be better.

"Our agreement with Liverpool was made two days ago, and it was to announce the news only after the Cape Verde match.

"But Jurgen Klopp was the one who announced it early, and Salah himself did not want to travel.

"If he wanted to, he would have left from the first day.

"When will Mohamed Salah return from his injury after receiving treatment in Liverpool? I cannot determine that because muscle injuries depend on daily improvement.

"But I can say that we have worked well with Salah for four days, and the player has shown good improvement to the best of his ability."
