Ivory Coast manager Emerse Fae is reportedly set for massive pay rise.

One of the top coaches at the recent 2023 Africa Cup of Nations is now said to be set for a massive pay rise, taking his salary to a whopping R2 million.

The African showpiece was won by host nation Ivory Coast last month, who, at one stage of the competition, were on the brink of elimination.

This prompted the Elephants to make the first managerial change of the tournament, with then-manager Jean-Louis Gasset given his marching orders during the group stage and replaced with his assistant Emerse Fae.

Fae guided the team to one of the unlikeliest triumphs in history, as he inspired victories over Senegal in the round of 16, Mali in the quarter-finals, DR Congo in the semi-finals, and Nigeria in the final.

He was then put in charge in the position for a longer term, although it is still said that the tactician is on an assistant coach contract.

According to Sport News Africa, an unamed official from the Ivory Coast Football Federation confirmed: "Fae is currently under contract as assistant coach with La FIF since his arrival in Ivory Coast.

"And this contract continues until the signing of the new contract as coach-selector. There is therefore neither void nor anomaly in the current situation.

"Fae is Ivorian, he won the AFCON. He will be better paid than Gasset."

Another source told the outlet that Fae would now earn €100 000. "Gasset was not paid 108 thousand euros (R2.2 million) but 75 thousand euros (R1.5 million).

Emerse will therefore emerge at around 100 thousand euros (R2 million). Better still, he wants two names in his staff in terms of assistants because he has already worked with them. This is where the last discussions are, otherwise everything is closed," the source added.
