Bafana Bafana defender Thibang Phete has resurfaced in Portugal after landing a new deal with top-flight outfit GD Chaves.
The 29-year-old had been a free agent since parting ways with United Arab Emirates (UAE) Pro League side Al-Bataeh CSC in June but has now been unveiled as the latest signing for
Prior to the move, Phete was linked with a possible return to South Africa but nothing materiilasied.

Portugal will be a familiar territory for Phete, who previously played for Vitória SC, FC Famalicão and B SAD in the Portuguese topflight prior to his UAE move.
The versatile defender product becomes the third South African in the top flight of Portuguese football, with Kobamelo Kodisang and Nkanyiso Shinga having recently helped their respective teams Moreirense FC Estrela de Amadora.
Phete will be eyeing a return to the National team set-up ahead f the next years Africa Cup of Nations to be played in Côte d’Ivoire in January 2024.
Ahead of continental showpiece, the South African Football Association (SAFA) has confirmed that Bafana will play four matches in preparation.
Opponents will be Namibia, DR Congo, Eswatini and Afcon hosts Côte d’Ivoire.
