The South African Football Players Union has made revelations the shocking, heavy fines that players at DStv Premiership club TS Galaxy must endure through their line of duty.

TS Galaxy are into their fourth season playing top-flight football after their owner Tim Sukazi bought the status of Highlands Park and have never finished in the top eight.

While they have appeared a model of professionalism from a distance, Nhlanhla Shabalala, the secretary general of the South African Football Players Union has pointed out some few disturbing trends at the club.

"At TS Galaxy, they fine players ridiculously," says Shabalala.

"A player would be fined R10 000 for protesting after having been involved in a tackle which is all part of the game.

"But yet when you just go to the referee and say it was not a foul, but the referee gives a yellow card because you engaged with the referee you get fined R10 000.

"For using boots that they say are not specified for that game, and I don’t know who gets to decide these things, players are fined R15 000 if you are found to have used boots that they think should not have been used for that game.

"There needs to be justice for the players who have fears which is why we have signed a CBA recognised by the league and we do go to teams despite getting resistance.

"We are given one hour to engage players and give them a report of two years which becomes information overload.

"Somehow there is a strategy to deny them access to this information in the acts of cruelty happening in football," says Shabalala.

Efforts to get comment from TS Galaxy - who had a date at the Court of Arbitration for Court in recent days in a matter relating to Igor Makitan - were fruitless at the time of compiling this report.
