SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt rued the numerous missed chances against Tshwane rivals Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday evening.

Matsatsantsa lost 2-0 against the Brazilians in the Tshwane derby after first-half goals from Peter Shalulile and Lucas Ribeiro Costa.

Hunt said they could have defended the first-goal better but applauded the Brazilians' second goal by Costa from a set-piece routine.

"We had so many opportunities, more than them, we should have won the game, just lapse of defending with the first goal, I mean they never had a shot at goal, so ja it's disappointing," Hunt told SuperSport TV.

"But then you got to commend the kids, they've done brilliantly, they are working but obviously the level is (higher). But still we could have won the game.

"I mean if we defend properly, we didn't. First goal was from the side, on the byline here, we got to defend that better, we didn't, second goal, you know quality, so. But in saying that I can't fault the youngsters. It is what it is," he said.

"Before they scored we could have been 2-0 up, 3-0 up, it is what it is, ja. Maybe they should be winning a little easier against a team like us but we did well, I can't fault the players, it is what it is."

When asked about his second half changes, Hunt added, "Changed the shape, went forward a little bit more, I thought we were good, they had the ball but we had the chances, Shandre (Campbell) came on, I thought he could have had a hat-trick in 20 minutes you know.

"(But) he's a kid, he does well, we've got keep battling, you see our squad depleted a little bit but we need to stand up, there's enough quality here in terms of mentality, we just need to get the quality better but hey it is what it is," he added.
