SuperSport United’s search for a first DStv Premiership win in 2024 continued after drawing 1-1 draw with Polokwane City on Wednesday evening.

Bilal Baloyi, Siviwe Magidigidi, Gape Moralo and debut to youngster Lucky Muthewi were how United lined-up, whilst City preferred Meshack Maphangule ahead of Ndumiso Mabena.

Matsatsantsa were keen to go ahead earlier on and had a powerful shot from a set-play situation by Lyle Lakay on eight minutes fly over the top.

In no less than a minute, Rise and Shine squandered a golden chance when Douglas Mapfumo drilled a ball into space from Simon Ramabu well wide.

Former Cape Town City midfielder Given Mashikinya also missed an opening for City in the midway stage as he nodded Langelihle Ndlovu’s corner-kick narrowly past Ricardo Goss.

Goss didn’t continue playing and was dismissed on the half-hour mark for committing a foul outside of his own area and had Washington Arubi come on from the bench.

The Limpopo-based side continued coming forward and missed another guilt-edge chance when Manuel Kambala guided a corner from Appollis wide of the mark.

Rise and Shine maintained the same energy ten minutes in the resumption and went ahead through a well-taken finish in the box by Appollis.

Young Muthewi wasn’t able to continue playing after picking up an injury and required coach Gavin Hunt to bring on Etiosa Ighodaro.

The latter answered perfectly when he rose up in space to meet a delivery from Aphiwe Baliti and nodded in from point-blank range.

Matsatsantsa expectantly had their tails up and came inches of taking the lead through a snap shot by Grant Margeman, but snapped past the bottom-corner.

There clash saw no further goals and ended all square, as Matsatsantsa are yet to record a league win this year though moved back to sixth spot with City still eleventh.
