Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro had some special praise for two Buccaneers players after the Soweto Derby win.

The Buccaneers secured the bragging rights in the Soweto Derby after defeating Kaizer Chiefs 3-2 on Saturday afternoon.

Derby debutant Thabiso Lebitso fired in a cracker in the second half, with the returning Monnapule Saleng on the double as the 48-year-old hopes the latter rediscover the form that made him the main man last season.

"Both really outstanding performances, " Riveiro told SuperSport after the game.

"Scoring goals in the derby are going straight to the books, so I'm so happy for both because for different reasons.

"Thabiso is an excellent guy, working hard to make it possible to play for Pirates," he went on.

"Saleng is doing everything in order to be Saleng again and so far it looks like he's coming back," he added.

The Spanish tactician was also happy with how the derby turned out on the day after a five-goal thriller.

"A proper derby, no? It's changes in the score, with moments for both teams, I think both teams competed the way you have to compete in a derby. I don't know why the people are now upset, I think Chiefs did a good game," Riveiro said on SuperSport TV

"They were running all the way, everybody was running here today an extra mile, so there's nothing to regret I think in any of the teams. I think it was a nice derby, five goals and obviously happy with the work that we did to regroup ourselves after Wednesday (draw against Cape Town Spurs). To perform the way we did with only two days in between the games, so yeah, I'm so proud of the guys.
