Former PSL wonderkid Mkhanyiseli Siwahla backs Orlando Pirates attacker Relebohile Mofokeng to walk away with the 2023/24 DStv Premiership Young Footballer of the Season award.

Last season, the accolade was won by Mamelodi Sundowns' Cassius Mailula, who is currently playing his football in the Major League Soccer for Toronto FC.

Siwahla believes this season nobody should come close to the Pirates youngster Mofokeng.

So far this season, the 19-year-old Mofokeng has scored three goals, and provided four assists in the 29 appearances he has made in all competitions.

"Mofokeng has been doing well," declares Siwahla, speaking to KickOff.

"What gives Mofokeng an advantage over the other youngsters is the number of matches he has played. Mofokeng is getting more minutes on the pitch compared to the other youngsters in the Premier Soccer League.

"I like the way he's been pushing himself, he treats all games he plays equally," added the ex-Ajax Cape Town star.

Siwahla also explained why current youngsters are struggling to reach their full potential in their football careers.

"Things have changed a lot. Nowadays social media is dominant, you play one good game in a month and someone on social media will be singing your praises.

"That's the difference between the current youngsters and our generation.

"In our time, it was not so simple. We could not even see what possessions our role model owned. We couldn't see their cars, houses, tattoos, we were not exposed to such things.

"Having a good performance game after game is the only thing that motivated us.

"But I think Mofokeng can be able to stay grounded because he appears as someone who is very focused and disciplined."
