Thabo September says their next mission in the Nedbank Cup is to ensure a cup final between Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates remains just a dream.

September and Kwanele Kopo are co-coaches at Chippa United and have been receiving rave reviews for the progress is making under their guidance, having been appointed early this year.

The Chilli Boys have made it into the last four of this season's Nedbank Cup and will be facing the red-hot Buccaneers in the semi-finals.

"Sometimes it's nice to be an underdog. We are going there to enjoy the moment while giving our best, as we've been doing lately," September tells KickOff.

"Come the 4th of May at 17:30, we will see if we will allow the dream to take place, or if we crush that dream.

"We play to win. Our job is to try to win every match we play in. But the factors are not there yet - the factors can be the weather and a lot of things.

"If a chance avails itself, we will take it," adds the former centre-back.

September revealed what the bigger picture is for the Eastern Cape-based side, whose first and only cup final in the competition came against Marumo Gallants in May 2021, where they lost 1-0.

"We are looking to play our first cup final as Chippa United [coaches].

"Kwanele Kopo is a big factor in South African football, plus my experience in the game is also helping.

"We didn't change much when we got here, we maintained the continuity, and we put together a team that has strong belief.

"We brought self-confidence to the players. The team had a couple of clean sheets, so we spent most of our time working on the attackers."
