Football agent Mike Makaab has issued an update on Manqoba Mngqithi's future at Mamelodi Sundowns.

After Mokwena was elevated to a sole head coach back in October 2022, with Mngqithi position changed from co-coach to senior coach,

It was reported by other publications that the relationship between the two coaches had potentially been affected and the 37-year-old coach could seek his own technical team once Mngqith's contract expires.

The former Orlando Pirates coach also admitted himself that it's normal for a new head coach to seek his own backroom staff and rumours of Mngqithi's potential exit at Sundowns gained more momentum after former assistant coach Steve Komphela jumped ship to join Moroka Swallows at the beginning of the season.

Komphela leaving the Brazilians before the expiry of his contract fuelled more speculation that the 52-year-old could be the next coach of the previous setup to leave, with his contract set to expire in June.

However, the soft-spoken coach could have his deal renewed at Sundowns after all, if the two parties, currently in negotiations, come to an agreement.

"Yes. We're at the moment speaking to Mamelodi Sundowns," Mngqithi's agent Mike Makaab confirmed on Gagasi FM Sport.

"Manqoba is happy at the club.

"We've said this all along and now it just depends on us coming to an agreement with the football club to extend his contract.

"It's still early days as far as the negotiations are concerned, but I’m hoping that within the next couple of weeks we'll have more clarity on Manqoba’s future," he added.

Mngqithi was previously linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu but Makaab has insisted that the former Golden Arrows coach "is extremely happy" at the Brazilians.
